Clovis High School in New Mexico is leading the way in revolutionizing education by hosting an event that allows students to explore professions using virtual reality technology. This collaboration between the school and WorkForce Solutions, called the Be Pro, Be Proud event, aims to equip students with the insights and resources they need to make informed decisions about their future careers.

Over two days, students from Clovis High School had the opportunity to immerse themselves in virtual reality simulations. The event took place in a transformed semi-truck, which served as a state-of-the-art mobile virtual reality lab. Students engaged in simulations of trade jobs, as well as those in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

Zayleigh Wheeler, a sophomore at Clovis High School, found the experience invaluable in solidifying her career choice. “I have always been interested in nursing, but after going through the virtual reality course, I feel even more confident about pursuing it as a career,” she shared.

The Be Pro, Be Proud event aimed to inspire and educate students about professions while addressing the deteriorating workforce in the region. By exposing students to different career paths and encouraging internships, the event aimed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the job market.

Principal David Fredericks was determined to provide students with a range of career options. “Our goal was to give our students a glimpse into the real world, show them available careers, and help them understand the importance of pursuing their passions,” he explained.

In addition to the virtual reality simulations, the event included a comprehensive lecture on financial readiness and debt management. Students gained valuable insights into managing their finances and planning for their future.

Clovis High School’s initiative to host the Be Pro, Be Proud event aligns perfectly with the broader goals of this movement. As the sixth state to join the initiative, New Mexico is empowering its students and preparing them for the workforce of tomorrow.

Looking ahead, Clovis High School plans to host similar events in the future to provide students with exposure to a variety of careers. By doing so, the school aims to guide students in making informed decisions about their future, setting them up for success.

The Be Pro, Be Proud event at Clovis High School has not only given students the opportunity to explore different professions but has also sparked pride and progress within the community. By investing in the skills and aspirations of young individuals, Clovis High School and the Be Pro, Be Proud movement are shaping the future of North America’s skilled workforce.

In a world where technology continues to reshape industries, it is refreshing to see educational institutions like Clovis High School embracing virtual reality as a tool for career exploration. Through this innovative approach, students are empowered to make informed choices and are provided with the necessary resources to succeed. Events like these pave the way for a brighter future, where students can confidently pursue their passions and contribute meaningfully to society.
